2/3 of Zheleznitsa Tunnel of Struma Motorway Were Dug

Jeleznica-26.10_9.jpgTwo thirds of the excavation and the primary lining of Zheleznitsa tunnel of Struma Motorway have been completed within one year since the start of the construction works. The primary lining of the facility on the south side reached 790 m for the left pipe and 706 m for the right one. From the north side 680 m out of the right pipe and 670 m out of the left pipe were dug.


 


Zheleznitsa tunnel is constructed according to a new Austrian method, digging about one and a half - two meters in each pipe and direction per 24 hours, and immediately after that the primary lining of the facility is made with fasteners, sprayed concrete and anchors. Construction works began in October last year and the site is being operated around the clock.

“Zheleznitsa” is the longest road tunnel in Bulgaria that was built in our country so far. It will have two separate pipes for moving in the direction, as each of them will be about 2 km long. The facility will have all necessary systems for energy-efficient lighting, ventilation, video surveillance, fire alarm, intelligent traffic management system etc.

In parallel, a bridge is constructed at the direct route crossing over the river Suha reka with a length of 108 m, a supporting wall at a direct route, as well as a bridge over the river Suha reka with a length of 24 m together with a service tunnel road at the Southern tunnel portal from the town of Simitli, helipad, correction over the river Suha reka.           

The project for the construction of Zheleznitsa tunnel of Struma Motorway is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the national budget through OP “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” 2014-2020. The Contractor of Zheleznitsa Tunnel is the association DZZD “STRUMA MOTORWAY TUNNEL 2018”, which involves the following: GP GROUP AD, GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION OOD and VIA PLAN EOOD. The value of the contract is BGN 185,370,370.37 without VAT.
