Another 24 km of Struma Motorway from Kresna to Sandanski are Under Construction
The construction of another 24 km of Struma motorway has started, financed by Operational program “Transport and Transport Infrastructure”. The section between Kresna and Sandanski – lot 3.3 from km 397+000 to km 420+624 is part of the project: Struma motorway – lot 3.1, lot 3.3 and Zheleznitsa tunnel.
It is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the EU and the national budget under Operational program “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” 2014 – 2020.
Present at the first symbolic first sod, where the future road junction Strumyani is planned to be constructed, were the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Lilyana Pavlova, the Chairman of the Managing Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency, eng. Lazar Lazarov, members of parliament, mayors, etc.
The total length of lot 3.3 of Struma motorway is 23.6 km. Two road junctions will be developed in the section between Kresna and Sandanski, including 25 large facilities – bridges over rivers Struma, Zlinska, Gradeshka, Potoka, Rechichka, Sandanska Bistritsa, Leshnichka, overpass over the Sofia – Kulata railway, 9 agricultural underpasses and overpasses, 4 recreation grounds, including toilets, etc.
The construction of intelligent transport systems is provided for the first time in the construction of a motorway section. They include counting and traffic management stations, video monitoring stations, vehicle weight measuring stations and meteorological observation stations.
The newly developed road infrastructure will improve road safety and environmental preservation. It will also improve the development of the region’s economy, workforce mobility and competitiveness of the economy.
The contractor of Lot 3.3 is Consortium "Struma Lot 3.3", which involves GBS infrastructure construction" AD, "Patstroy 92" AD, "Glavbolgarstroy" AD and "Geostroy" AD. The value of the contract is BGN 234 123 012, VAT excluded. The construction supervision will be carried out by "Patinvestengineering" EOOD. Their contract is for BGN 2 998 162.28, VAT excluded.
The section from Kresna to Sandanski is part of Lot 3 Blagoevgrad – Sandanski. It is divided into three subsections – Lot 3.1 from Blagoevgrad to Krupnik, Lot 3.2 between Krupnik and Kresna and Lot 3.3 from Kresna to Sandanski.
With funds from OP "Transport" 2017-2013, the Road Infrastructure Agency has constructed a total of 69 km of Struma motorway in the sections Dolna Dikanya – Dupnitsa /16.78 km/, Dupnitsa – Blagoevgrad /37.48 km/ and Sandanski – Kulata /14.7 km/.
The total length of Struma motorway, from Daskalovo to the border with Greece, is 150 km. It is part of the Orient/East Mediterranean Corridor, connecting Vidin with Kulata, and serving as a route for the traffic from Greece. The road is used as the shortest route between Western Europe, Central Europe and the Aegean Sea, as well as a connection between Europe and Asia.
