The exhibition presents the results of the exploration of the three large sites discovered along the route of Lot 3 of the Struma Motorway passing through the territory of Blagoevgrad Region. These are: Pokrovnik and Moshtanets – ancient and late antique villages from III-VI century, and Damyanitsa – a prehistoric village from the Late Neolithic to the Final Chalcolithic period (second half of the 6th millennium BC to the first half of the 4th millennium BC).

The Exploration of the sites is financed by the Operational Programme „Transport and Transport Infrastructure“ 2014-2020 and implemented under contract signed between the Road Infrastructure Agency and the National Archaeological Institute with the Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, with the active participation of archaeologists from the Regional Historical Museum – Blagoevgrad.

The exhibition includes the most interesting finds – more than 400 pieces found during the rescue archaeological excavations on the three sites. Among the artefacts from Moshtanets are presented completely preserved glassware, a clay ritual vessel – kernos found in a necropolis from the Roman era, as well as jewelry – rings, glass bronze bracelet, fibulas, and coins from the Late Antiquity. Bronze red gemstone rings are of special interest.

Among the artefacts from Pokrovnik are presented earthenware, lamps, beautiful anthropo- and zoomorphic applications on vessels, lead weights for fishing nets, weights for a vertical loom, jewelry and coins. Special interest deserve the military diploma and the big bronze bread stamp.

Finds from Damyanitsa are grouped into 5 themes: „Inhabitants“, „Crafts“, „Fashion“, „Rituals and Symbols“, and „I am a man and nothing human is alien to me“ – the famous phrase of the Roman poet Publius Terentius. A special playground with interactive games was organized for young visitors.

The opening of the exhibition on May 19, 2018 within the European Initiative „Night of Museums“ is at 18:00 at the Regional Historical Museum– Blagoevgrad.
