The European Commission Approved BGN 739 Million for the Construction of Struma Motorway
The European Commission approved the project for construction of 40 km of Struma Motorway, the sections Blagoevgrad – Krupnik, Kresna – Sandanski and Zheleznitsa Tunnel. The total amount of the means granted by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union is 628 million Euro. The national co-financing is in the amount of BGN 111 million.
The construction of Lot 3.1 Blagoevgrad – Krupnik started on August 31 2017, and is now in the first stage of its implementation. On September 20th, 2016 began the construction works of Lot 3.3 Kresna – Sandanski and the physical progress of the construction will soon meet 50%. At present time tender procedures for the construction of Zheleznitsa tunnel are taking place, with indicative value of BGN 250 million. The motorway section is divided into three Lots and the term for the execution of the construction has been reduced up to three years.
