On the Last Working Day before Christmas the Traffic of Trucks over12 t will be Limited on the Busiest Roads
The traffic of trucks having a maximum mass exceeding 12 tonnes on the motorways and the busiest roads will be limited on 22 December (Friday), the last working day before the Christmas holidays, between 16:00 h and 20:00 h. The aim is to enhance safety, to increase the throughput of the road infrastructure and to ensure the smooth travel of drivers of passenger motor vehicles.
The traffic of heavy-duty motor vehicles will be stopped also on the last day of the holidays – 27 December from 14:00 to 20:00 h. The same restrictions will apply also on 29 December which is the last working day for 2017.
The order on the temporary organization of the traffic of motor vehicles exceeding 12 tonnes along sections of the national road network during holidays and weekends in 2018 is published on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency. The document is signed by Engineer Doncho Atanasov, Chair of the Management Board of the RIA, Hristo Terziyski, Director of National Police General Directorate and by Krasimir Srebrov, Executive Director of Executive Agency “Road Transport Administration”.
In 2018, on public holidays, as the current practice is, the traffic of road vehicles exceeding 12 tonnes will be stopped on the last working day before the holiday - from 16:00 to 20:00 h and on the last day of the holiday – from 14:00 to 20:00 h. The limitation will cover the following road sections:
- motorways;
- Road I-1 village of Rebarkovo – Botevgrad, the traffic will be rerouted to Road II-16 Rebarkovo – Svoge – Sofia;
- Road I-1 – stage connection of Lot 2 of Struma Motorway at Blagoevgrad - Border Control Checkpoint Kulata;
- Road I-4 road junction Koritna – Veliko Tarnovo – Shumen;
- Road I-5 Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo;
- Road I-8 Border Control Checkpoint Kalotina – Sofia;
- Road I-9 Varna – Burgas;
- Road II-18 Sofia Ring Road;
- Road II-99 Burgas – Tsarevo.
The restriction does not apply to vehicles carrying perishable food and cargo transported at a temperature regime, livestock and dangerous goods (ADR).
The traffic of trucks exceeding 12 tonnes will be stopped along the motorways and the busiest road sections during the active summer season – during peak traffic periods from 1 June to 15 September 2018, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The restriction of the traffic on weekends when many drivers of passenger vehicles go on road trips will increase travel safety.
The traffic of road vehicles exceeding 12 tonnes along Trakia Motorway will be restricted as follows:
- On Friday from 18:00 to 20:00 h, in the direction Sofia – Plovdiv;
- On Sunday from 16:00 to 20:00 h, in the direction Burgas – Sofia.
Along Struma Motorway:
- On Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 h in the direction of road junction Daskalovo – Border Control Checkpoint Kulata.
Along Maritsa Motorway:
- On Sunday from 16:00 to 20:00 h in the direction Svilengrad – Trakia Motorway.
The traffic of heavy-duty trucks above 12 tonnes will be limited from 1 June to 15 September, every Friday, from 17:00 to 20:00 h and every Sunday from 14:00 to 20:00 h along the following road sections:
- Road I-1 village of Rebarkovo – Botevgrad, the traffic will be rerouted to Road II-16 Rebarkovo – Svoge – Sofia
- Road I-1 – stage connection of Lot 2 of Struma Motorway at Blagoevgrad - Border Control Checkpoint Kulata;
- Road I-5 Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo;
- Road I-9 Varna – Burgas;
- Road II-99 Burgas – Tsarevo.
The traffic of trucks above 12 tonnes will be limited in 2018 in specific sections of Hemus Motorway with a dedicated order in view of the forthcoming repair works.
