Southern Black Sea Tourists Travel on a Four-Lane Road in the Section between Pomorie and Aheloy

The construction of the second carriageway of I-9 road Slanchev Bryag – Burgas, in the section between Aheloy and Pomorie, and of the direct route of the Aheloy bypass has been completed. The opening of the sections before the start of the active tourist season considerably facilitates the traffic and increases road safety.

The new road sections were opened by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov, and before the launching of the traffic, a blessing-of-the-water ceremony was performed for health and safe travel. The event was attended by members of the National Assembly, the Regional Governor of Burgas, Valcho Cholakov, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency, Eng. Doncho Atanasov, Eng. Svetoslav Glossov – Member of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency, mayors of settlements in the region and others.

We completed the job almost five months ahead of time, in line with our commitment and without compromising on quality. Today we launch probably the most long-awaited section along the Black Sea coast, which is important for tourism and road safety, Minister Nankov said during the ceremony.

Prime Minister Borisov and the Regional Minister urged drivers to pay attention and comply with road traffic rules.

The Prime Minister announced that the appeal proceedings for expropriation initiated by property owners are expected to be completed in August and that the construction of the last section of Slanchev Bryag – Burgas – bypass of Pomorie will begin by that time. It must be completed by next summer.

The new 4-lane alignment of the road Slanchev Bryag – Burgas has a total length of more than 9 km. Of them, Aheloy bypass comprises 4.4 km and 4.7 km is the length of the reconstructed section between Aheloy and Pomorie. The projects have been implemented with funds from the state budget and the investment amounts close to BGN 45 mln., VAT included.

First class road I-9 is of great significance for the region of Burgas and has intense traffic all year round. According to counting point near Ravda, in 2017 the annual average daily traffic between Slanchev Bryag and Burgas is 19 237 motor vehicles, of which 16 773 passenger cars, 1978 goods vehicles and 370 coaches. Last year, June 30, saw the busiest traffic when 36 057 motor vehicles crossed the section.

Aheloy bypass is on a completely new alignment with two large facilities, one of which is a road overpass on a municipal road that passes above road I-9 and connects Tankovo and Aheloy, and the other is a bridge over Aheloy River with a length of 64 m. A road link with a roundabout connecting third-class road III-6009 Kableshkovo – Aheloy and road I-9 Slanchev Bryag – Bourgas has also been constructed.

The reconstructed 4.7 km section of road I-9 Pomorie – Aheloy between 212^th and 217^th km is now with two separate carriageways, each with two lanes. There are 11 small facilities in the section. The route crosses two Natura 2000 protected areas and therefore a number of ecological measures related to the protection of the environment and biodiversity have been implemented. Drain pipes have been constructed and fences have been installed for amphibians and reptiles. In the Pomorie Lake protected zone, a special fence has been built, 5.6 m long and 1.2 m high. Noise protection fences on both sides of the carriageway have been placed at Aheloy camping site and hotels nearby.

Contractor of the 4.4 km Aheloy bypass is Trace Group Hold AD. Construction supervision has been carried out by Plan Invest Search DZZD, which includes: Plan Invest Plovdiv EOOD, Infra Invest OOD, Search Corporation SRL and NТSS Consultengineering EOOD. Their contract amounts to BGN 295 464, VAT included. Project's supervision has been implemented by VIP CONSORTIUM, which includes VIA PLAN EOOD, TRANSCONSULT-22 OOD and Patconsult 2004 EOOD. The value of the contract is BGN
7 804.20, VAT included. Project’s supervision of the large facilities and the road connection has been carried out by TRAFFIC HOLDING EOOD. Their contract amounts to BGN 7 680 VAT included.

The construction and assembly works for the reconstruction of I-9 road Slanchev Bryag – Burgas have been completed by Patstroy Burgas EOOD. The value of their contract is BGN 21 563 497.44 BGN, VAT included. The construction supervision has been carried out by NR Consult EOOD. Their contract amounts to BGN 224 640, VAT included. Project's supervision has been carried out by Via Plan EOOD. The value of their contract is BGN 16 000, VAT included.
