The Traffic Will be Released Today along the Entire Gabrovo Bypass Road
Today at 9 am, traffic will be released on the new 12 km stretch of the Gabrovo bypass road. The section contains the largest reinforced concrete bridge facility ever built in our country, with a length of 640 m and an opening of 160 m. It was built using the “cantilever concrete” method and crosses the wide valley of the river Sinkevitsa, part of the Chehlevtsi residential area and the Voynovo residential area in Gabrovo.
This technology is used to build bridges with the largest openings, and this is the third one in our country after the viaduct at the 48th km of the Hemus highway and the viaduct at the Podkova-Makaza road.
The tunnel under the Bakoya Hill is also included in the newly constructed section of the bypass road of Gabrovo – at the 12th km of the III-5004 road. The facility was built using a new Austrian method and most of its excavation was carried out by blasting activities. The tunnel has one tube with two lanes, two guide strips and sidewalks, with safety systems – ventilation, light signalling device, fire alarm, video surveillance, dispatch station, etc.
In addition to the tunnel and the bridge facility, there are two other road nodes on the newly built section – Chehlevtsi r.n. and Dyado Dyanko r.n., and three smaller bridges. At Chehlevtsi r.n., which will be near to Malina street and Nikola Voynovski street, the Gabrovo bypass road will connect to the III-4404 Gabrovo-Debel Dyal road. At Dyado Dyanko r.n. – near 3ti Mart boulevard in the district town, the III-5006 Gabrovo-Uzana road will connect to the III-5004 road, the Gabrovo bypass road, and the municipal road to the village of Chukili. The connection of the Gabrovo bypass road with the city centre will be implemented through the two facilities. Both road nodes have energy-efficient lighting, which increases safety and comfort when travelling.
The entire bypass road of Gabrovo is 23 km long. Until now, the drivers have travelled on the completed 11 km, and now they will travel on the new 12 km of the III-5004 road. At the constructed intersection with the I-5 road, the drivers coming from Gabrovo and travelling to Kazanlak and Southern Bulgaria will continue their journey through the Shipka pass.
The contractor of the Gabrovo bypass road is Consortium PSVT which includes: Hydrostroy AD, Patni stroezhi – Veliko Tarnovo AD, Patengineeringstroy-T EAD. The construction contract value is BGN 92,940,000 including VAT. The construction supervision is performed by the Obedineni Konsultanti Partnership under the Obligations and Contracts Act (DZZD) with the following partners: Transconsult BG OOD, Rubikon Engineering OOD and Traffic Holding EOOD. The contract value is BGN 1,096,032 including VAT. The designer supervision is by Patproekt EOOD. Their contract value is BGN 116,640.
The project “Road III-5004 – Gabrovo Bypass from km 0+000 to km 31+000, section from km 0+000 to km 20+124.5 and a stage connection from km 0+000 to km 3+130" is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union through the OP Transport 2007-2013, and after the completion of the programme, the construction continued with funds from the republican budget.
The bypass road of the city of Gabrovo is part of the Bucharest-Ruse-Dimitrovgrad-Alexandroupolis transport direction and is a junction point for the North-South traffic. The passage through the Stara Planina Mountain in the central part of Bulgaria is realized through that road. The main transport directions to be served are Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo – Shipka – Stara Zagora – Svilengrad (Makaza) and Oryahovo – Sevlievo – Shipka – Stara Zagora – Svilengrad (Makaza).
