“With the completion of the section of the Western Arc, the transit traffic will be facilitated. The three motorways – Trakia, Hemus and Struma, are now completely connected. Travelling will be much more comfortable and safer, and from an environmental point of view, harmful emissions will be reduced”, eng. Lazar Lazarov said at the site opening. One small stretch remains – the right carriageway of the bridge near Kazichene, the construction of which will be completed by the end of the year, he added.

The construction of section 2 completed the widening of the West Arc of the Sofia Ring Road. The new section of the project Kalotina-Sofia Motorway will facilitate the transit traffic by providing a fast and convenient connection between Lyulin motorway, road I-8 Sofia – Kalotina, the Northern Speed Tangent, Hemus motorway and Trakia motorway and it will lead the heavy transport outside the boundaries of Sofia.

The 5.5-kilometer section begins from the bridge over the Kakach River until the road junction with the Northern Speed Tangent. The project was co-funded by the European Union Cohesion Fund and the national budget through the OP Transport 2007-2013 and the OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020.

3 road junctions were constructed in section 2 – Stefanson road junction, Lomsko Shose road junction and Northern Speed Tangent road junction, a trestle over the future Stefanson Blvd., a new road to Voluyak Station, an overpass over the road to the village of Mramor, etc. At the Stefanson road junction the route passes along a trestle over Stefanson Blvd. and the railway and the road to Voluyak railway station. Lomsko Shose road junction is a roundabout with the boulevard and a trestle over it, and the Northern Speed Tangent road junction is a full “clover-leaf junction” with four exits.
