5 km of Road III-867 Madan – Zlatograd – Benkovski Are Being Repaired in Conformity with the Method “Cold Recylcing”

The reconstruction of 5,081 km of Road III-867 Madan– Zlatograd – Benkovski on the territory of the region of Smolyan commenced – from km 22+157 to km 22+992 and from km 23+889 to km 28+135. The third class road is the main connection of Zlatograd with the surrounding populated areas and with the neighboring municipalities – Madan, Nedelino and Kirkovo. It provides the connection between Road II-86 Rudozem – Smolyan – Asenovgrad and Road I-5 Kuzrdzhali – Makaza.

The objective is to restore and improve the road operational condition, its bearing capacity, dewatering and road signalization, so as to the safety and the comfort while travelling to be increased.

The sections, which will be reconstructed, start at the road branch to the village of Erma River and end at the western exit of Zlatograd.  

The technology “cold recycling” will be used at the construction of the road pavement. This is a modern technology for repairs of the road pavements allowing efficient and ecological execution through use of the layers of the existing pavement. The laying of new layers of non-dense and dense asphalt concete, cleaning of the existing trenches and construction of new trenches and culverts are forthcoming. New horizontal marking, road signs and restrictive systems will be placed.  

The access of the inhabitants from the municipality of Zlatograd to administrative, health, educational and cultural services will be facilitated after the reconstruction of RoadIII-867. The connection with border control checkpoint Zlatograd – Thermes – Xanthi will also improve.

The contractor of the construction works is PST Group JSC. The construction contract is at the value of 1.558.390,34Euro inclusive of VAT.

The construction supervision is performed by Ecoengineering LTD. Their contract is for 18.952,86 Euroinclusive of VAT.

The reconstruction of RoadIII-867 is a part of project “Developing quality accessibility networks for creating a common future”, with acronym AccessNet, financed under the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013. The Programme is cо-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (85%) and the national budgets (15%).
