PC146989.JPGThe reconstruction of 5,965 km of road III-867 Madan – Zlatograd – Benkovski from km 32+478 to km 38+443, which is between Smolyan and Kurdzhali, is completed. The third-class road is the main connection of Zlatograd with the surrounding populated areas and with the neighboring municipalities – Madan, Nedelino and Kirkovo. It provides the connection between Road II-86 Rudozem – Smolyan – Asenovgrad and Road I-5 Kurdzhali - Makaza.

The reconstructed section begins at the Industrial Zone of Zlatograd at km 32+478 and ends after the road fork to the village of Dolen at km 38+443.

The technology “cold recycling” is used at the construction of the road pavement. This is a modern technology of road pavement repairs, allowing for effective and ecological execution through the use of the existing pavement layers. New asphalt is laid on the site, the existing trenches are cleaned and new culverts are built up. Two bridges are overhauled, one of which is over the Nedelinska River. New horizontal marking is placed, road signs and restrictive systems are installed.

The access of the Municipality of Zlatograd residents to administrative, health care, educational and cultural services is improved by the general overhaul of Road III-867, as well as the connection with border control checkpoint (BCCP) Zlatograd - Thermes - Xanthi. The safety and convenience of travel are increased.

The contractor of the construction works is “PST Group” JSC. Their contract amounts to 4 272 891.60 BGN (2.184.728,30 Euro), inclusive of VAT.

The construction supervision is exercised by “Ecoengineering” LTD. The contract for the consulting services is for 47 520 BGN (24.296,96 Euro), inclusive of VAT.

The reconstruction of Road III-867 is part of project “Developing quality accessibility networks for creating a common future”, with acronym AccessNet, financed under the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013. The Programme is cо-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (85%) and the national budgets (15%).
