The Reconstruction of Bulgaria Blvd. in Zlatograd Commenced
The reconstruction of 4,343 km of road III-867 Madan – Zlatograd – Benkovski from km 28+135 to km 32+478, which are on the territory of the region of Smolyan commenced. The third class road is the main connection of Zlatograd with the surrounding populated areas and with the neighboring municipalities – Madan, Nedelino and Kirkovo. It provides the connection between Road II-86 Rudozem – Smolyan – Asenovgrad and Road I-5 Kurdzhali – Makaza.
The section which will be reconstructed coincides with Bulgaria Blvd. in Zlatograd. Its beginning is at the western exit of the town at km 28+135, passes through the center and ends at the beginning of the industrual zone at km 32+478.
The objective of the project is to recover and improve the road operational condition, its bearing capacity, dewatering and road signalization, so as to the safety and the comfort while travelling to be increased.
The laying of new layers of non-dense and dense asphalt concrete and the placement of new horizontal marking are forthcoming. The road signs will be replaced, new curbs and sidewalks and a new rainy water sewerage system will be built up. The three-branch crossroad at Bulgaria Blvd. and Khan Presiyan Street will be reconsructed into a roundabout.
The access of the inhabitants from the municipality of Zlatograd to administrative, health, educational and cultural services will be facilitated after the reconstruction of Road III-867. The appearance of Zlatograd will be renewed after the overhaul of the central boulevard. The connection with border control checkpoint Zlatograd – Thermes – Xanthi will also improve.
PST Group JSC is the contractor of the construction works. The construction contract is at the value of 1.702.196,01 Euro inclusive of VAT.
The construction supervision is performed by DZZD (Company under the Obligations and Contracts Act) Eco Bul with participants: Ecoengineering LTD. and Bul Stroy Control Engineering JSC. The contract is for 18.284,08 Euro inclusive of VAT.
The reconstruction of Road III-867 is a part of project “Developing quality accessibility networks for creating a common future”, with acronym AccessNet, financed under the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013. The Programme is cо-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (85%) and the national budgets (15%).
