The Reconstruction of Road III-867 between Zlatograd and the Road Branch to the Village of Dolen Commenced
The reconstruction of 5,965 km of road III-867 Madan – Zlatograd – Benkovski from km 32+478 to km 38+443, which is between Smolyan and Kurdzhali, commenced. The third class road is the main connection of Zlatograd with the surrounding populated areas and with the neighboring municipalities – Madan, Nedelino and Kirkovo. It provides the connection between Road II-86 Rudozem – Smolyan – Asenovgrad and Road I-5 Kuzrdzhali – Makaza.
The objective is to restore and improve the road operational condition, its bearing capacity, dewatering and road signalization, so as to the safety and the comfort while travelling to be increased.
The section, which will be reconstructed, starts at the beginning of the industrial zone of Zlatograd at km 32+478 and ends after the road branch to the village of Dolen at km 38+443.
The technology “cold recycling” will be used at the construction of the road pavement. The laying of new layers of non-dense and dense asphalt concete, cleaning of the existing trenches and construction of new trenches and culverts are forthcoming, new horizontal marking will be placed, the road signs and the restrictive systems will be replaced. An overhaul will be performed of two bridges at km 37, one of which is over the Nedelinska River.
The access of the inhabitants from the municipality of Zlatograd to administrative, health, educational and cultural services will be facilitated after the reconstruction of Road III-867. The connection with border control checkpoint Zlatograd – Thermes – Xanthi will also improve.
The contractor of the construction works is PST Group JSC. The construction contract is at the value of 2.184.728,30 Euro inclusive of VAT.
The construction supervision is performed by Ecoengineering LTD. The contract for the consulting service is for 24.296,96 Euro inclusive of VAT.
The reconstruction of Road III-867 is a part of project “Developing quality accessibility networks for creating a common future”, with acronym AccessNet, financed under the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013. The Programme is cо-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (85%) and the national budgets (15%).
